Coburg Velodrome Food Truck Festival
Long evening, evenings where the last of the sun’s rays are still visible at 9pm, are my favourite thing about summer. Evenings that are made for alfresco dining, open air dancing and moonlight cinemas. The Coburg Velodrome Food Truck Festival satisfies all these needs and more, with an array of activities to keep all members of the family entertained.
Head down to Coburg Velodrome any time between 12pm and 10pm (Friday opening hours are 5pm-10pm) over the Australia Day weekend for more than 20 food trucks, market stalls, live music, circus shows, daily eating contests, roving performers and even Mexican wrestling.
My plus one and I ate ourselves silly, sampling the flavourful Valencian rice dish from the Melbourne Paella Company, rich butter chicken from the Two Fat Indians Food Truck and the pure indulgence of Gelato Messina.
Even though the festival organisers had selected a terrific line-up of local bands and DJs, it seemed the real party was at Knafeh Bakery, home of the bearded bakers and their Middle Eastern sweet cheese dessert. Their shipping container turned food truck became an impromptu dance floor, and they were more than happy to take a break from baking to have a boogie with the locals.
All-round family fun in the sun. Pets are welcome too!
Coburg Velodrome Food Truck Festival runs from 26-29 January 2017 at 30 Charles Street, North Coburg. Get a free RSVP here.
